Daily Blog Posting and Personal Branding Success - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Daily Blog Posting and Personal Branding Success - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Daily blog posting is a proven, practical way to build your personal branding successno matter how busy you are. If youre starting to build your personal brand, or you want to jump start a stalled personal brand, daily blog posting can make a big difference in a short amount of time. And, its not as much work as you expect, especially if you prepare the way by setting up a daily blogging plan like the one I describe below. Daily blog posting is an especially personal branding tool if you use RSS feeds to link your blog to your Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social media pages. Each time you update your blog, youre simultaneously updating your social media presence everywhere. Benefits of daily blog posting Daily blog posting offers numerous long-term and short-term benefits. These include: New prospects. Assuming your blog posts are search engine optimized for your keywords and phrases, each blog post will increase your search engine visibility and attract new prospects to your blog. Repeat visits. In addition to reinforcing your personal brand as an expert in your field, each new post attracts repeat visits from your core prospects and clients. Social media. Each new posts creates fresh news that you can announce in social media like Twitter, inviting others to comment on your latest posts. Fresh content. Daily blog posting is one of the best ways you can turn your expertise and ideas into information that you can recycle, re-purpose, and reformat in dozens of ways. Each time you turn an idea into writing, youre creating equity you can build upon for years. Easier writing. As Ive written about before, see Why Do Small Business Owners Often Dislike Writing, writing is usually approached from a perspective of avoidance or last-minute deadline point of viewwith all the enthusiasm of a visit to a dentist for a root canal. Purposeful daily writing, however, can be a catalyst for change, providing a structure for writing improvement, so writing will become easier for you. Creating a structure for daily blogging success The starting point for building your personal brand with daily blog posts is to create a system, or a structure, for your daily blog posts. The structure makes it possible. Without a plan or a structure, its impossible to build your personal brand with daily blog posts. You simply cant be constantly re-inventing the wheel with each post, trying to come up with a fresh, relevant topic from scratch. Instead, each of your weekday blog posts has to fit into a predetermined big picture. Once you come up with a plan, or structure, youll find it easier and easier to prepare fresh blog posts each weekday! Choosing topics for your daily blog posts It was relatively easy for me to create daily blog posts for Published and Profitable because my website was based on a 4-step process: Plan, Write, Promote, and Profit. This provided me with the structure I needed for my daily blog posts: Monday. Each Monday I prepared a short blog post about planning a book as a personal branding and income-generating tool. Tuesday. Every Tuesday, I focused on a different aspect of getting a book written as efficiently as possible. Wednesday. My Wednesday topic addressed a topic related to book marketing, creating a launch plan for a book, and maintaining interest in an already-published book. Thursday. Every Thursday, I discussed an aspect of profiting from a book.not, particularly, profiting from book sales, but ways to profit from the opportunities to promote my coaching, consulting, speaking, and information products. What if you dont have a 4-step plan? If you dont already have a defined 4-step process youre using as the core of your personal brand-building, you could substitute: Monday = The Basics for Beginners. Each Monday, you could define a term thats important in your field that newcomers might not be aware of. Tuesday = Current Topics. Every Tuesday, provide a summary of current events in your field, including upcoming events (conventions, trade shows), current challenges, new trends, and trending topics in your field on Twitter. Wednesday = Problems and Solutions. On Wednesdays, you could create a case study blog describing a clients problem, the solution you provided, and the benefits the clients enjoyed. This, of course, provides a way for you to promote your expertise from an editorial, as opposed to a brag-and-boast, perspective. Thursday = Book reviews. Your Thursday blog posts could be devoted to The Well-read (enter an insider term for others in your field), and you could review a different book or online resource that others in your field should know about. Books could range from classics in your field to the latest books. Or, you could simply go through the alphabet, letter by letter, writing about different topics beginning with A, then B, then C, until youve covered the alphabet then start all over again. The key daily blogging success is choosing a topic you can break down into bite-sized building blocks that you can address, one day at a time. Once you have the framework for your daily blog posts, youre well on your way to success. What about Friday blog posts? In my case, I reserved my Friday blog posts for promoting upcoming events (like free book coaching calls), reviews of other books of interest to authors, and inviting other writing experts to contribute guest posts. In your case.you can choose another specific topic, or you, too, could use Fridays as your Wild Card or miscellaneous day. Perhaps, like Mindjet, you could create a curated Super Happy Fun Friday Link Time feature! Tips for finding the time Here are some tips for finding the time to prepare 5 daily blog posts a week: Create the daily posting habit. Find a time that works for you, and build it into your daily schedule. Get in the habit of blogging at the same time each day.   Im a night owl, for example, so part of my solution was preparing my daily blog posts after the rest of my family had gone to sleep. You may prepare to work on your blog in the morning. Adopt a short post approach. Adopting a big picture strategy for your blog posts reduces the need to tell everything in each post. The more you adopt a building block approach to your blog posts, the easier it will be to prepare a continuing stream of short, focused, self-contained posts. Choose topics ahead of time. Knowing blog posting schedule, I would devote time each weekend to choosing topics for the upcoming week. Just knowing that, on Tuesday, for example, Im going to write about Creating a Table of Contents, my brain would begin thinking about ideas to include. Work on more than one post at a time. Often, the hardest part of writing is getting started. Often, on a Saturday or Sunday, Id prepare the first draft of multiple posts. That way, I had a head start on more than one post. Outline your posts ahead of time. Finally, dont feel youre always going to have to daily blog posts forever!   Once youve accomplished your initial personal branding goalwhich may be to attract a certain number of new newsletter subscribers or created enough content for a book or ebookyou may want to cut back your blogging frequency. On the other hand, you may discover you like the challenge and fast-turnaround of daily blog posting. What are your thoughts? On the Job by Anita Bruzzese How to Avoid Unethical Behavior on the Job

On the Job by Anita Bruzzese How to Avoid Unethical Behavior on the Job The image most of us have had of the U.S. Secret Service is one of stern-looking agents, whispering into their shirt cuffs and ready to throw their bodies in front of the president or other important officials to protect them from harm. Drunk agents, cavorting with prostitutes and acting like frat members at a kegger is not the standard image, yet one that has penetrated our consciousness as stories of agent misdeeds in Columbia have surfaced. In a recent Senate hearing, Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan testified that the behavior including agents going to a strip club is not indicative of a widespread ethics problem. He was met with skepticism by some Senate members and as a result, there will be a wider probe into the agencys culture. Still, the question remains that if highly trained Secret Service members can pull such unethical and unprofessional shenanigans, what is happening in other workplaces? Kirk Hanson is the executive director of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University and has been helping companies deal with ethical dilemmas for decades. He says the Secret Service debacle shows the failure by an institution to think about what are unavoidable ethical dilemmas. You drop these people in another country for three weeks. They have a lot of free time on their hands and a substantial amount of money in their pockets, he says. It seems to me that its pretty likely they may get involved in some temptations and those kinds of activities need to be dealt with in a deliberate way in training. When faced with those situations, what are the choices and decisions that need to be made? he says. These are all things that employees must be trained for. They have to decide (read the rest here.)

The 5 Ms of Entrepreneurial Womens Success - Kathy Caprino

The “5 M’s” of Entrepreneurial Women’s Success In launching my new Breakthrough Vision Marketing division  that offers women entrepreneurs, consultants, writers, and practitioners marketing support  to achieve success in their ventures, Ive discovered some telling statistics about the success entrepreneurial women have achieved thus far, and the challenges women  continue to face in creating financial success in their endeavors. Some key stats on women entrepreneurs: Between 1997 and 2006, women-owned firms grew nearly twice the rate of all U.S. firms  It was as recently as 1974 that women got the right have business credit in their own names Of   the 10.5 million women-owned businesses, only 3% are at $1 million in revenue in contrast to 6% of male-owned businesses.   Only 20% of US Companies with $1 million or more in revenue are women owned.  About entrepreneurial ventures: Most business experts conform to a theory of thirds: Of all the new business startups, 1/3 eventually turn a profit, 1/3 break even, and 1/3 never leave a negative earnings scenario.  Other research shows that only 2/3 of all small business startups survive the first two years and less than half make it to four years. Are women different from men in entrepreneurial ventures?   Research has shown there are differences in: 1) Attitude 2) Expectations for the business 3) Goals and Motivations (males more likely to start businesses to make money and achieve recognition; women emphasize balance with family) 4) Prior business experience 5) Risk tolerance (lower for women) 6) Active pursuit of ongoing business opportunities 7) Type of business formed (males are more likely to form more technologically-intensive businesses The top challenges for women entrepreneurs are: 1) Financial Planning experience and focus 2) Thinking big enough to delegate, hire, and grow (giving up complete control and fearing what growth means) 3) Overcoming reluctance to self promote Five Step Plan to a Successful Entrepreneurial Venture In reviewing the research available on entrepreneurial success for women, and in thinking about the research Ive conducted over the past six years on the 12 hidden crises working women face today, I believe there are 5 core areas that are vitally important for  entrepreneurial women to master.   If women (and men) ignore these areas in their businesses, failure is far more likely: Focus on the 5 “M’s” Management Money Marketing Mastery Mission   (Click here for a look at my recent interview on News 12 CT on the 5 Ms for Womens Entrepreneurial Success). Step 1: MANAGEMENT   Know What’s Required to Manage Your Business Successfully The terrific book The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber talks about three different roles that are essential in creating a successful business â€" Technician, Manager, and the Visionary.   Often women who start their businesses do so because they have a love of the technical skill involved (baking, career coaching, software design, etc.) and they make the fatal assumption that having an understanding the technical aspects of the business is the same as knowing how to run the business.   These are completely different skill sets, and you must extricate yourself from a  sole focus on the technical service (being “in” the business””) and focus more “on” the business â€" what’s involved in building it to the level you want it. Key tactic â€" Focus more time “on” the business than “in” the business.   Develop a sound business plan with S.M.A.R.T. (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely) goals and strategies that will help you get your business to the next level. Step 2:   MONEY â€" Get Empowered with Money, Financial Planning and Budgeting Many women entrepreneurs start a business with little understanding of the financial investment required, the financial planning steps necessary to build success, or how long it will take to make a business profitable.   The first key step is to gain complete control of your finances â€" first personally, then professionally â€" and plan how you will fund and grow your business.   Get outside help in the form of an empowering financial consultant and accountant to advise you.   Don’t try to do this alone â€" gain an outside perspective about your money, and funding of the business.   In general, you need a reserve of money for two full years while you launch a business, as most likely you won’t see profits until after several years.   Many people fail to plan for how long it takes for a business to be profitable. Key tactic:   Create a strong budget and financial plan for your business that you monitor and assess vigilantly, on a monthly basis, with key milestones.   Find an empowered outside financial consultant and accountant who come highly recommend to you by other empowered and successful women entrepreneurs to help. Step 3: MARKETING â€" Understand the New Rules of Marketing The world has changed.   Marketing is no longer about hawking your services or wares to a group of people who are unknown to you (cold calling, direct mail to unsolicited names, etc).   It’s about building trust and credibility, and developing relationships through authentic connection and engagement, over time. People do business today with people they know, like, and trust. Key tactic: Create a multi-pronged marketing strategy that builds relationships, trust, and credibility over time with your potential customers and clients.   Serve them in different ways and means that allow customers/clients to connect with you at various levels, price points, and engagement entry points.   Then and only then will they buy or do business with you, when the time is right for them.   Step 3: Mastery â€" Master an understanding of what’s required to succeed in the various aspects of the business. There are many different dimensions that must be mastered to run a successful entrepreneurial venture, including: Financial planning Accounting Systems Advertising/Marketing Research Product development Pricing Services/packages/products Human resources/staffing Sales Business Development In areas in which you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable, you must reach out and get help or hire it. Key tactic: Connect with resources that support women entrepreneurs, such as Count Me In for Womens Economic Independence,  SCORE, Small Business Administration, CT Women’s Business Development Center â€" there are scores of affordable sources of help in our area to assist you in building a strong foundation for your business.   Don’t wait until it’s too late to get the help you need. Step 5: MISSION:   Find your passion and your calling in this work It’s a hero’s journey to become a successful entrepreneur or solopreneur and have the staying power and energy to make it work over several years when the going is toughest.   There has to be compelling mission behind your work  and a calling to be of service, and to do it well and make a profit in the process.    This is not a volunteer endeavor â€" this is a business that you wish to become highly profitable and lucrative â€" so that you can have the largest impact possible.   And you must know your core, competitive advantage â€" what makes your business different and how it stands out from the rest â€" and communicate that powerfully in all you do.   If you’re not passionate about this work, think again about launching your business. *   *   *   *   *   *   *   * Think about your mastery of the 5 Ms.   Are you focused on these areas?   What areas do you feel most challenged in?   Youre not alone we all struggle with areas outside of our comfort zones.   Do you feel confident that you have the skills and expertise to take your business to the next level?   If not, dont wait to get the help you need and want.   Knowing when we need help and taking empowered action to get it is the critical difference between achieving the success you want, and letting your potential slip through your fingers.
